God never promised that life would be easy, without trial or difficulty. When we think of God solely in terms of what He gives to us, it’s harder for us to realize the fullness of His grace when tough times arrive. We need the big picture to understand that faith is about the goodness of God and how we stand in relation to Him as our Lord, and not that faith is only about the reaping of benefits (such as material items). Life will not be without hardships or consequences, but God stands by us in these times and knows what good things are coming up for us after the difficult times have passed.
Pray: Lord, you can see what lies ahead for me. Help me to have a grateful heart for what you have already blessed me with, and help me to hold on to you even more when hardship arises. Allow me to remember that you will remain by my side even when it feels like you are far away, and that your blessings will reach me in due time. Remind me that who you are is the focus of my faith, and not only what I can get from you. Amen.
