Identity

Identity

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God… John 1:12 (NIV)

It is easy to get wrapped up in the roles we play in life as part of who we are. We are sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers. We are bosses, employees, co-workers, volunteers, coaches and caregivers. But these relationships and roles are just a piece of who we are. Once we have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of our life, we become a child of God. Our sense of worth doesn’t come from the other relationships we have in life. It comes from being loved by God, the Creator of the universe. We are children of God and that is the identity that will last throughout eternity.

Prayer:
God, thank you for giving me the right to become a child of God. Help me to stay grounded in that aspect of my identity. Show me the areas where I’m focusing my identity on other relationships instead of you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
