It’s a Delight

It’s a Delight

Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 (NIV)

I don’t know about you, but I love this promise. God promises to give me the desires of my heart. He will give me what I ask for, but there is a condition – I need to delight in the Lord first. I need to learn to enjoy the pleasure of His company. I need to learn to spend time with Him and His Word. As I spend time with the Lord, I become more like Him. I learn to desire the things that He desires. I learn to care for the people around me the way that He does. I learn to grieve about the things that grieve God: injustice, exploitation, unhealthy, unholy or hurtful things. I learn to be His reflection in the world around me. The desires of my heart begin to look like the desires of God’s heart.

Prayer:
God, thank you for your promises. Teach me how to delight in you. Help me so that the desires of my heart mirror the desires of your heart. Thank you for giving me the desires of my heart as I delight in you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
