Not Shadow Boxing

Not Shadow Boxing

You know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize. So run to win! All those who compete in the games use self-control so they can win a crown. That crown is an earthly thing that lasts only a short time, but our crown will never be destroyed. So I do not run without a goal. I fight like a boxer who is hitting something—not just the air. I treat my body hard and make it my slave so that I myself will not be disqualified after I have preached to others. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NCV)

There are times in life when we feel the things we are doing are not making a difference. We feel like we are going through the same daily routine but not impacting the lives around us. We feel as if we are as effective as punching the air. Our fight is not with people or the circumstances we are currently facing. They are with an unseen enemy. Each time we take the step of faith to follow what God tells us, we are walking in the victory that Jesus already secured over our enemy. We are showing him, and those watching us, that our God is bigger than the things we face. We are showing them that God is in control and we trust Him no matter what we see. We are not shadow boxing.

Prayer:
God, thank you that you are in control and have a plan for my life. Thank you for reminding me that my faith actions make a difference even if I don’t see the results. Continue to guide me in the things you want me to do to bring glory to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
