Look Forward to What Lies Ahead

Look Forward to What Lies Ahead

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Philippians 3:13-14 (NLT)

Most people have events that happened in their life that keep replaying in their mind as if it’s stuck on repeat. Maybe someone offended you, you’re angry at a family member for something they did or said, or you had a tough day at work. The verse above tells us to forget what happened in the past and look forward to what lies ahead. Think of it this way – the car will only go in the direction of the driver’s focus. So, if you keep focusing on what happened previously, you’ll find yourself circling the same block, never moving forward. Now, forgetting the past isn’t always easy. That’s why the Bible tells us to press on to reach the end of the race. It requires daily, intentional effort to forget the past and look forward. What are you focusing on (circling the block) related to your past?

Prayer:
God, help me to move forward. Help me to forgive those who have hurt me. Help me to forgive them just as I desire for you to forgive me. Lord, help me to renew my mind with your Word (the Bible) so I can focus on my future instead of my past. In Jesus’ name. Amen
