Loving the Lonely

Loving the Lonely

‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation. And here’s why:

I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.’

‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.’ Matthew 25:34-40 (MSG)

We learned that before God said “It is good,”  God said “It is not good (for man to be alone).” We were created for community. So what are we to do about the social disconnection happening in our lives and in our world? God is calling us to care for the person right in front of us.

The Bible gives us many examples of how Jesus loved with touch, loved with listening, and loved with time. It’s important that we learn from Jesus and invest ourselves in the lives of others.

Action Step: Ask God to give you eyes to see those who are hurting and a heart to care.
