Mature In Christ

Mature In Christ

Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God… Hebrews 6:1 (NIV)

When we were newly born into the world, we needed constant care and help. Our parents helped feed us, bathe us, and took care of all our needs because we could not do so for ourselves. Eventually, we grew up and were able to take care of our basic needs and no longer needed the same constant care as when we were babies. The same goes for us when we are new believers.  We need someone to feed us God’s Word, teach us the ways of the Lord and assist us in our walk with God. Just as we grow up physically, God also expects us and encourages us to grow up spiritually.

God not only commands us to grow into mature Christians, He expects and encourages us to do so. He wants us to grow beyond the beginning stages of Christianity and really grasp our identity in Christ so we can become disciples ourselves. We must no longer be involved in our old sin, but mature in our knowledge of the Word of God and let that knowledge reflect in the way we live our lives. This is what maturity in Christ looks like.
