Peace, Be Still

Peace, Be Still

On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” Mark 4:35-40

The disciples had spent the day with multitudes of other people listening to Jesus teach. Jesus tells them it is time to move to the next location. They all load up on their boats and begin their journey. A storm surfaces beating on the boats. All the while, Jesus is sleeping in the back of the boat. The disciples panic and ask for help, which Jesus provides. He spoke to the storm and it ceased.

God knows there may be storms during our journey. Things will not always go according to our plan, but they will work out according to God’s plan. When we are afraid, we can speak to the storms in our life. We can trust that God knows how to get us to the next step in our journey. When you are afraid, speak to the storm in your life – peace, be still.

Prayer:
God, thank you that you know my next destination. Your Word tells me that you know the plans you have for my life. They are plans to prosper me, not to harm me. They are plans for a hope and a future. Remind me to speak “peace, be still” to the storms raging around me. Help me to rest in you. In Jesus name. Amen.
