Sick People

Sick People

“In one of the villages, Jesus met a man with an advanced case of leprosy. When the man saw Jesus, he bowed with his face to the ground, begging to be healed. “Lord,” he said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean. Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared.” Luke 5:12-13 (NLT)

Another area of Jesus’ ministry was healing the sick. While he would care for their physical well being, that was not his only focus. The man with leprosy could not have close human interaction. People could not touch him or come near him. Jesus’ first action was to focus on the emotional needs of the individual. Before physically healing him, Jesus reached out to touch him. The man felt a human connection he had probably not felt in years. Then Jesus moved on to heal the man physically.

We may not have the ability to heal people physically’ but we can still help them. We can pray for the sick. We can be there to support them emotionally. We can be there to keep them company. We can help take care of the sick.

Prayer: God, thank you that you care for more than our physical well being. Thank you that you care for our emotional and mental well being also. Show me who I can care for today. In Jesus name. Amen.
