Step out of the Boat

Step out of the Boat

So Peter got out of the boat. He walked on the water toward Jesus. But when Peter saw the wind, he was afraid. He began to sink. He cried out, “Lord! Save me!” Right away Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “Your faith is so small!” he said. “Why did you doubt me?” When they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those in the boat worshiped Jesus. They said, “You really are the Son of God!” Matthew 14:29-33 (NIRV)

Sometimes we are afraid to fail in life. We are concerned about what others may think. We may be concerned that if we make a mistake, we won’t be able to fix it.

We need to be willing to step out in faith. Peter was able to walk on the water as long as his focus was on Jesus, the source of his salvation. Once he became afraid of what was going on around him, he started to sink. As soon as he cried out, God was able to help him fix the situation he was in. There may be times that our mistakes take a while to be worked out. In other cases, they may be corrected immediately. No matter what, God can make it work together for your good (Romans 8:28). You just have to be willing to step out of the boat.

Prayer:
God, thank you for being there to hear my cry for help. Show me where I need to be willing to step out of the boat. Help me to know when I need to take a step of faith. If I make a mistake, remind me to immediately cry out for help. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
