Submit to Your Husband

Submit to Your Husband

Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Colossians 3:18 (NLT)

Today we are discussing what the Bible has to say about wives in marriage. Tomorrow, we will look at the role of husbands in marriage. With that said, there is a lot of misunderstanding related to the verse above. The word “submit” or “submission” simply means putting ourselves under someone else’s authority. In marriage, wives are told to submit to the authority of their husbands. Oftentimes, we think this means allowing people to walk all over us, but that is not the case. Jesus gave us the perfect example of submission in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus cried out to God because He didn’t want to die on the cross. However, He chose to submit to the will of the Father. Jesus knew that God had bigger plans and was in control of whatever happens. When wives submit to their husband’s authority, they are not necessarily putting all their trust in their husbands but trusting that God is in control. She is putting her faith in God and His bigger plan.

Spend time today reviewing the way you treat those in authority over you. Do you submit to their authority or push your ways on them? Ask God to give you a heart to submit to authority in your life.
