Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: Ephesians 6:1-2 (NLT)
Obedience is defined as compliance with an order, request, law or submission to another’s authority. Honor is showing respect. During our youth, we are supposed to obey our parents. We should do what they say, when they say it, as long as it doesn’t conflict with God’s Word. Throughout our lives, we need to show our parents respect. We need to honor their role in our lives even if we don’t think they deserve it all the time. We do this, not because of what they do, but because God says it’s the right thing to do. The benefits we receive are not from man but the promises of God.
