A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. Proverbs 22:1 (NIV)
We may at times have a focus on our riches because money is something we need in this world. We have responsibilities to take care of, but God encourages us to put a priority on our name. He reminds us that our reputation is important. Our name is a representation of our character and our character is also a reflection to others of the God we serve. The character others see in us will speak louder than the value of our bank account. Others will know the God we serve through us. The strength of our character will benefit us in more ways than we can imagine. Go after what is more desirable – a good name.
Prayer: God, thank you for reminding me of the importance of a good name. I want to value my character over great riches. Show me the areas where I need to improve my character. Help me to reflect you in every aspect of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
