Unlike Others

Unlike Others

“When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.” Matthew 7:28-29 (NLT)

In Jesus times, there were many religious teachers. Their focus was on the law and how to follow it. They could quote the law and let you know where you were falling short of it. Jesus also knew the law. He knew and understood the way God wanted people to live. Jesus’ focus of teaching wasn’t on the letter of the law but the intent of the law. Because Jesus was God and the Word in the flesh, He was able to speak with a level of authority the other teachers didn’t have. The way Jesus taught was unlike the others and gave them a sense of freedom.

Prayer: God, thank you for the law. It teaches me to see how much I need you. Help me to be more like you. In Jesus name. Amen.
