We Know in Part

We Know in Part

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully… 1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV)

Joseph was the favorite son.  His jealous brothers were going to kill him but decided to sell him instead.  Over the years, he would get promoted and circumstances beyond his control would knock him down again.  Things would look like they were going to work out and someone would come along and undermine the good that was happening.  Eventually, Joseph got to a place where he not only was able to save his family, but also those living in Egypt as they went through a seven year famine.  He told his brothers, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today” (Genesis 50:20).

When we look at the world around us, we only see a small piece.  We live in a corner of the world for a very short time when compared to eternity.  God’s plans for us and those around us are bigger than we can imagine.  Since we live in a broken and fallen world, things are going to go wrong.  Bad things will happen.  But God can turn anything that went wrong and help us benefit from it somehow (Romans 8:28).  We may only know a part, but eventually we will know fully.

Prayer: God, thank you for your plan for my life.  You can turn anything around for my good.  I love you, trust you and know I am called according to your purpose.  Help me to remember that I only see a piece of your plan.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
