Free to Choose

When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. Romans 5:12 (NLT)

Adam was placed in the Garden of Eden with one rule.  Do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:16-17).  Adam had a choice – listen to what God directed him to do or listen to what Adam wanted to do.  The Bible shows us that Adam didn’t listen and ate from the tree.  This choice allowed sin to enter into the world.

We are all now born into a sinful, broken world.  But we still have a choice to follow God or our own way.  While we may not have the physical tree of knowledge of good and evil in front of us, God has told us what we should and shouldn’t do.  We find it in His Word (the Bible).  We find it in the still small voice we hear telling us not to do something.  Just like Adam, we are free to choose to do things God’s way or our own.

Prayer: God, thank you that I am free to choose to follow you.  Help me to be more sensitive to your leading in my life.  I want to choose to follow you even when sometimes I miss the mark.  Help me to be more like you.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
