Gideon Trusts God

Gideon Trusts God

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior!”. . . . “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” “Pardon me my Lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” The Lord answered, “I will be with you and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.”  Judges 6:12,14-16 (NIV)

Gideon was in a lowly position when God called him to lead an army to save Israel. He stated that he came from the weakest clan. He was not a leader in his family. By all accounts, he didn’t appear to be anyone all that special. Yet, God had a plan for him and called Gideon to it. Gideon questioned how he could succeed with such a task in front of him, but the Lord answered him by telling him that He would be with Gideon. Gideon trusted God fully and defeated the enemies of Israel.

We can learn from Gideon’s example. We may think we have little to offer. We may think we just aren’t good enough to be useful. But when we trust God, when we really trust Him with everything, we can see the bigger and brighter view that God has of us and fulfill what He has already arranged for us.

Reflect today on where you may be holding back your trust in God. What are you concerned with? If you moved past your worries, what do you think you could accomplish? Remember that God wants us to trust Him, and He sees us in a bigger picture than we can imagine!
