In a Moment

In a Moment

“Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” Psalm 39:4 – 5 (NLT)

At times, it seems like the trouble we are going through is so important. While there are important things that do happen, sometimes we make things bigger than they are. Losing a job can be a problem, but that event represents just one day out of the total number of days in our life. Not getting the promotion we worked so hard for can cause us to lose hope, but the verse above tells us that our life is fleeting. Our children may not clean their room when we tell them to or whatever other chores we want them to do, but our life is but a breath.

When we look at life through the lens of eternity, the problems we face don’t seem so big. Whatever storm we are in, we can know that it will pass. Instead of focusing on our problems, we can enjoy the good moments. The house may be chaotic and a mess when our kids are home from spring break, but life is fleeting. Planning the big event may be stressful, but our days to enjoy them are brief. Life passes in a moment – enjoy it.

Prayer:
God, thank you for reminding me of the bigger picture in life. Help me to see life through the lens of eternity. Help me to be in the moment on a personal level with the people around me. Even though my time on earth is brief, I want to use it to bring you glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
