Is There a Danger in Being Entangled Again with past Sins?

“And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before. It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life.” 2 Peter 2:20-21

When we gain new life in Christ, we must not go back to our old sinful life! We now know what is expected of us, the consequences for sin, and have escaped the unrighteous way of life we lived before. It is not that we will never sin again or live a perfect life, but to intentionally return to the way we used to live is to reject the command that we live a holy life, a life that follows God’s commandments in the Bible. It may be hard to live in a new way especially at first, but as it becomes a habit for us it will become easier. Keep the focus on living right (according to God’s Word) and it will become the new norm for our lives.

Consider today the areas of your life where you may be trying to return to your old ways. How can you shore up your life in those areas to resist temptation? What could you add or remove from your life to make resisting the old sins easier for you? Work towards living right in order to avoid engaging with past sins again.
