“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NIV)
It is easy to worry about what is happening in our daily lives. We focus on our families, jobs and chores. We think about our next vacation or plans for the weekend. We look at our daily needs and how we can provide for ourselves by the work of our own hands. But this life is uncertain. Things can change in an instant. We should change our focus to look toward God and his love for us. We should trust that he will provide for us. He will give us the chance to sow into a better future that is certain.
Prayer: God, thank you for the reminder that this life is uncertain. I choose to put my hope in you. Help me not to put my hope in wealth but trust in you alone. In Jesus name. Amen.
