Time to Shine

Time to Shine

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:13-16 (NLT)

God created each of us for a purpose. As we are fulfilling that purpose, there are two things that God instructs us to do.  First, we should be the salt of the earth. In biblical times, not only was salt used to enhance flavor, but it was also used to preserve things and as a disinfectant. In addition, God tells us that we are the light of the world. We are to stand out. Our good deeds should be easily seen. We should constantly show the love of God to others. These good deeds we perform should be for God’s glory and not our own.

Prayer:
God, thank you for using me to bring you glory. Show me where I need to be salt and light. Clean out anything in me that gets in the way of your plan for my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
